MY COMFORT FILMS/SHOWS

We all have that movies/shows that we never get tired of watching, and we practically know all the scenes, what’s going to happen, and memorized all the lines. We somehow feel good when we watch these certain films, it makes us feel cozy.

So, I’m sharing with you my comfort films/shows that I have watched for a million times and I still can’t get enough of them.

The Last Five Years

This is originally a broadway musical turned into a movie starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan back in 2014. It is a story about a couple’s journey in their relationship, how it started and how it ended within 5 years. I love how the story telling goes backward and forward in the movie. This movie has minimal dialogue, it’s mostly songs. Most people compare it to La La Land because of the plot and everything but I think The Last Five Years is better in terms of storyline and the songs. La La Land has the visuals.

I don’t know why this is my go to movie when I feel a bit sad. I love musicals but this movie hit so hard in my feels. Sometimes I just want to sing sad songs and be in a musical 😂

Rise Of The Guardians

Yes, this is an animated movie but this is one of the best! I had a crush on Jack Frost ☺️❤️ lol.

For those who don’t know this movie, it’s about the mythical characters most of us grew up believing such as Santa, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Sandman, and Jack Frost. They are known as the “Guardians” in the movie. The movie’s plot was about defeating the boogeyman who’s goal was to make children stop believing in the “Guardians”, which kills the joy, imagination, and dreams of the children.

I really like this film, it has such a great concept. It makes me wish that I was a kid again.

50 First Dates

I probably would add all of Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler’s films, but I guess I have to pick one.

50 First Dates is a romantic comedy about a girl named Lucy who has a type of amnesia that makes her relive today all over again when she sleeps. She’s not able to create new memories. So, when she meets Henry she has no recollection of meeting him when she wakes up the next day. This movie is so cute as Henry needs to reintroduce himself to Lucy everyday (isn’t that so sweet?).

Anyways, my sister introduced this film to me and since then I fell in love with their tandem without realizing that they were also the ones who were on The Wedding Singer which I also loved.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S

Okay, I must say that this show was really the one that got me obsessed to the point that I watched all 10 seasons of it, and I will watch it all over again as soon as I finish it. (I’m not exaggerating, ask anyone I know). I still laugh at the punchlines every time lol.

This show is about 6 friends living in New York trying to go through silly problems about relationships & career. This show will probably be unappreciated in today’s time as this got criticized over sensitive topics that back in the 90’s was not a big issue. And I don’t support the show about it, I was also disappointed at certain episodes and characters but looking past that, it is a great and fun show to watch. It really lifts me up every time I feel down.

These are the films that I watch every time I feel like lying down and wanting something familiar to comfort my mood.

What’s your comfort film/shows? 😊

FINDING THE MORAL OF THE STORY | MINDHUNTER

What’s up everyone! I’ve been meaning to write something about the Netflix show Mindhunter which is by far one of the most intriguing and fascinating show that I have watched recently. It is set in the 1970’s and it’s about an FBI agent Holden Ford who is part of the Behavioral Science unit, who talks to serial killers to understand their behavior and pattern, they document it and believe it will help the authorities to solve future crimes or even stop it from happening.

But this is not me discussing the story of it, this is me sharing what I got from watching it and it’s not tips for murdering people or is it? lol.

I just have this habit with watching films or even reading books, I always reflect on it. I always try to find something that I learned from it, I always try to find the moral of the story. That’s why for me it’s always hard to move on after watching a certain film or TV show and if it’s even possible I try to re-watch it just to make sure that I really understand the film. I even research some theories or explanations about it, or if I get an idea I’ll search it online to see if someone has the same understanding as I did (yes, I can get a little too crazy). But isn’t that the purpose of these films to make you think? To make you socially aware? Besides the entertainment I think taking something from it that makes you the person that you are today is important too (I don’t know, I’m being too analytical again).

So, what did I get from the Mindhunter? Simple, a parent has the biggest effect on a child’s upbringing or what type of person they are today. Most of the criminals that Agent Ford interviewed had a rough childhood, either physically and emotionally abused by their mother or they have an absent father. Speaking from my experience, I grew up in a broken home. My aunt raised me and she really took care of me like her own daughter. It is true when you grew up without your parents, you somehow feel lost even if you grew up in a great environment. So, what more for these children that were abused and all they ever known was pain. While I was watching I can’t help but sympathize with them for a bit even though they’ve done horrible things, understanding what they’ve gone through I somehow got the thinking that criminals aren’t born they are made. There are no bad people at birth, society creates them. Their environment affects how they function, imagine if these people had someone outside of their family that showed them kindness maybe they may have turned out differently. This is where I think about how kindness goes along way, you never know what a person is dealing with. I don’t know why but this show made me feel bad for these criminals, I’m just thinking what if someone just treated them nicely, maybe it would be different for them. Maybe they would become a better person and not be known for what they did.

Well, if you are curious about the show stream it on Netflix, this show features real serial killers and the resemblance of the actors from the real killers is very uncanny.

APPRECIATION TO SEX EDUCATION

118831601

Hey everyone, I’ve been busy but not too busy to write this quick reaction and appreciation for Sex Education. Season 2 of Sex Education was released a few days ago, I really love this show because it is so relevant, funny and entertaining to watch. First season was released a year ago on Netflix, at first I was hesitant to watch it because I thought it’s just gonna be another high-school-teenage-cliché romance series but it’s not. It’s actually really interesting to watch because of how they manage to portray “taboo” topics in such a funny way, not cringey yet informative. That is why the show was a huge success and now just a year later season 2 was released and what a way to follow up because it is even much better than the first season in so many ways.

A quick overview on what the show is about to those who haven’t watched it yet. It revolves around Otis whose mother is a “sex therapist” and he goes to high school. In a certain time he helped a fellow student with a sexual problem, knowing what he know about the subject because of his mother’s work he gave an advice that somehow resolves the student’s problem. Now, Maeve whom Otis has feelings for found an opportunity to make money out of giving sexual advice to students with problems regarding the topic. Thus, opening up what they call “sex clinic”, they make money out of lack of sex education.

I love this show so much I didn’t expect it to be this good. Every character is different and has a certain charisma that you’ll fall in love to and what I love about it the most is the awareness that they try to convey in a form of not making it awkward for the viewers to watch. Maybe it’s just me but sometimes there’s a certain part of a show where you know they are trying to raise awareness but it’s kind of cringey and cliché to watch. In this show it’s the opposite of that because this show made sure that you got attached to the character first and then that’s where they show the climactic and relevant part where a social awareness is involve, that you’ll feel sympathetic towards the character.

In season 1 there was Eric who is gay and he attended their dance at school and dressing fabulously but his parents disapproves because of what other people might say. I think that scene was the relevant part of the season, it was about self acceptance and self love.

And now in season 2 it’s Aimee, she was assaulted by a man on a bus and she was traumatized that she now skips the bus and walks to school ever since. Women supporting women was shown, a certain discussion between six women character on the show about having their commonalities were being abused by men. It was such a powerful scene where they supported Aimee by joining her to ride the bus again going to school.

I mean this is the type of show to be watched right now, the kind of entertainment that people needs. I never thought sensitive topics can be discussed through a show without the backlash of misinformation and misinterpretation. This is me promoting Sex Education on Netlfix. WATCH IT! NOW!

SHUT IT!

“If you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything at all”

Game of Thrones ended a day ago, what do you guys think? Not much spoilers here don’t worry.

I think GOT ended right, it was a bit rushed I must say but the ending was just right. But this is not a reaction kind of post, this is about how the “fans” reacted to the writing of Game of Thrones Season 8 in short this is a rant post.

Everybody had big expectations for the last season of Game of Thrones, well who wouldn’t have big expectations on the most popular show that there is right now? Lots of things are expected; wars and character developments are much expected for the season. Everybody has their opinions and theories of how the show should go and the thing is there are writers on the show that worked hard to give the “fans” a great show but sadly it was unappreciated.

Yes, we all have theories and “great” ideas how the show should be but I hope at least the people open their minds to see and understand why it was shown that way. In this season, we didn’t see what we expect to see because this show is unpredictable, you should go back and think that we didn’t expect Ned Stark to die at the very first season, we didn’t want that but it made sense. Season 8 made sense especially how it ended. But silly avid “fans” think they’re much greater than the actual writers of the show, I feel sorry for the writers and for the whole cast and crew. They don’t deserve to have these so-called fans where they have to petition to redo the whole season. You know how you work hard for something and then people will slam it on your face and say “redo your work”, “I hate it”. It’s disrespectful. I guess people thought too much of the show, I guess Game of Thrones got too mainstreamed that opinionated people became a “fan” and thought this was a great opportunity to voice out their criticisms towards the show just to feel “power” that they have been a fan ever since and they deserve more from the show.

My whole point in this post is that it is okay to voice out opinions but empathy and kindness should still be greater than anything. Constructive criticism is okay just as long it doesn’t make the person doubt their skill. Never make people feel stupid and bad for what they were so proud that they have created.
